Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Huntersville public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Holbrook Park expansion land purchase
The town is pursuing about an acre of land next to downtown apartments to expand green space, possibly with trails, gardens, a canopy walk, and terraced seating. A federal LWCF grant could cover up to half the $880,000 appraised value, with the land required to stay park use forever.
Huntersville Elementary Joint Use Agreement
The town would get 25 years of access to a full-sized gym, ballfields, storage, offices, and a greenway easement at Huntersville Elementary, with $2.5 million set aside to fund it. The school handles indoor operating costs; the town maintains the outdoor fields.
Waymer Park improvements and splash pad
The board hired Fairwood Construction to build the long-awaited splash pad with parks bond money.
Eastfield Road park buffer disturbance
Mecklenburg County's new park needs to cross a small stream buffer with its private drive and a ten-foot sidepath. The board supported it, and most of the site stays wooded with trails and mountain biking planned.
