Mecklenburg County HOMES property tax grant program

FY 2027 nonprofit funding allocations
The board divided roughly $240,000 among ten nonprofits, trimming several requests: Ada Jenkins got $35,000 of its $80,000 ask, Bags of Hope $15,000 of $25,000, Hope House $25,000 of $40,000, and the youth orchestra $10,000 of $15,000.
FY 2027 Recommended Budget
The town nearly doubled the annual solid waste fee from $154 to $270 because the old fee covered only about 55-65% of the $6.1 million it actually costs to collect trash for 22,000-plus households. The property tax rate stays at 22.7 cents. A former commissioner spoke in favor of the transparency; residents should expect the new fee on July tax bills.
